We at Challenging Events are passionate about reducing the plastic that is impacting on our world.

With over 1800 runners entered into the Winchester 10K we looked for an alternative to the plastic bottle of water provided to each runner at the finish line.

Only three days before the race the we finally found a solution.

CanO Water are Aluminium cans that are infinitely recyclable. They contain natural spring water and being a can the water is kept lovely and cool for the runners.

The average aluminium can is made from 68% total recycled content.

It was a big mission to get 2000 cans of water from the warehouse in North London to the event in Winchester in two days but both companies passionate about the environment they pulled out all the stops to make it happen.

Kelly Wickens – Event Director said “It is the first time the Winchester 10K has been plastic bottle free at the finish line, we hope to have set the trend and other event organisers to follow suit. We are very conscious about the impact we have on the environment around us and are really proud to be making a difference”

At the end of the race the team separated the waste and ensured the cans we recycled again.

WE are still searching for a solution to the plastic cup at the drinks station that is environmentally friendly, practical and financially viable.

Team member Debbie carefully separated the waste and Kelly ensured the cans went for recycling.
